With our 2 wire Illuminated switches we have a very interesting feature which is designed to automatically latch back onto mains power after a power cut or a power outage.
It is known as standby or sleep mode and a works when power is removed from the circuit. It will automatically try to latch back onto the mains over 5 hrs period where if no power returns in that time will go into standby or sleep mode to protect its onboard battery.
Sometimes power is turned off deliberately in a circuit for planned maintenance and in the case of painters and decorators who like to join the live and switch live together for permanent light and forget to turn off the battery switch this causes the switch to power itself off after 5 hours as it is attempting to latch back on to the mains.
Recharging or resetting our Push Button Timer 350A-1 and Touch Timer 360A-1 is simple.
Your timer may be in standby mode (sleep mode) because of many other reasons and here are just a few:
- Power Supply has been turned off
- Power cut has occurred
- A Capacitor was not fitted at original installation
- Load has failed, lamp failure or appliance failure
- Wrong product installed at outset
- Ordinary ON/OFF switches in same circuit
- Switched fused spur in circuit (and being operated)
- Power turned off at breaker by end user regularly
Firstly try to wake up switch out of standby sleep mode…..
Power up and press button (or touch plate on the touch version) until the switch clicks and hold for 20 seconds. The red LED should flash or start a rapid flashing. Allow this to flash for a period of time until the flashing stops nand flashes a bright flash every 2.5 seconds. Press and hold button again and this will switch lights off and illuminate the blue ring. You have now woken the switch from its Standby mode (Sleep mode).
If it does not start then your battery is too low to restart. Please follow the procedure below.
You will need the following tools:
- Small Phillips screw driver
- 9V battery with flying leads
Disconnect the switch from mains power !
- Remove 4 corner screws from the back of the product.
- Switch number 4 dip switch to the on position if not already on.
- Find the battery on the PCB( Printed Circuit board). The battery is Green and shaped like a barrel. Place the + lead from the 9V battery to the + on the 3.6V battery and the – to the – side of the battery.
- The Led should start flashing on the front of the product please keep watching this until flashing stops and then flashes every 2.5 seconds.
- Disconnect 9V battery.
- Replace back plate with 4 corner screws ensuring that on the push button version only, that the rubber boot stays on the micro-switch underneath.
- Connect to mains and apply power. The load must be fully connected!
- Press and hold button until blue LED appears.
- Leave for a period of 8 hours minimum in the off (blue light) condition to recharge battery.
If you have been advised to get a 3 wire product by Elkay Technical as a more suitable product for your application then please act on that advice by selecting products from our 3 wirerange.
The 3 wire Indoor Illuminated push is the 3875A-1 Push Button Timer and the 3 wire Illuminated touch is the 2235A-1 Touch Timer and both require a neutral.
Our Standard 2 wire products do not have a standby mode but they do have the ability to shutdown and wake up immediately power is restored.
