If you’re a solar installer or an electrical distributor/wholesaler selling solar products and haven’t yet read the IET Code of Practice for GRID CONNECTED SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEMS, you should promptly obtain a copy. You will see why a locking solar connector is now your only choice!
What is a solar panel connector?
We start with some basic definitions. Solar panel connectors play a crucial role in connecting every solar panel system together. They facilitate swift assembly and upkeep of photovoltaic (PV) modules. Hardwiring solar panels together would be unfeasible; therefore, virtually all solar installations rely on connectors designed to withstand all weather conditions.
Solar connectors have a vital function in linking solar panels to the inverter, and ultimately, to the electrical grid. The three key attributes of a solar connector include the IP rating, minimal contact resistance and compliance with IET interlock (or NEC interlock) requirements. Elmex Solar connectors stand out in all these aspects, establishing themselves as the top performers in the solar connector market and the only choice for solar installers and wholesalers.

Are you a solar installer or an electrical distributor?
If you are a solar installer or an electrical distributor/wholesaler selling solar products, you should obtain a copy of the IET Code of Practice for GRID CONNECTED SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEMS, without delay.
In particular, refer to section 5.9, which explains PV array plug and socket connections. Unless fitted in a restricted area accessible only to trained and authorised staff, all plug and socket connectors must be of the locking type that require a tool to separate them.
This is known as the IET Interlock.
What is the IET Interlock?
It means that the solar connector cannot be opened once it is joined together unless a key tool is used to unlock it. Refer to the illustrated diagram below for further details on how the secure locking mechanism works.
In addition to this, all specifications now require water tightness and especially Ingress Protection up to IP68 with solar connectors.
Elmex solar connectors
Just these two facts show that Elmex Solar Connectors are the only suitable choice for solar connections today. You can find the Elmex Solar Connector range at all major electrical wholesalers in the UK and Ireland. Furthermore, they come with IET Interlock and an IP68 rating as standard and with no extra cost.
The Elmex range is the only complete range in the UK that has straight, branch, inline fused, panel or bulkhead connectors and is the only range with a full range of tools and accessories including sealing caps, crimp tools, key tools, and a comprehensive specialist solar toolkit.
