Back in the last century Elkay was a brand that was part of Smiths Group, a large British multinational, diversified engineering business headquartered in London. The brand back then sold enclosures, cable glands, connectors, terminal blocks and time switches including the Columbus Pneumatic time lag switch.

In 2002, Smiths Group sold the business via a management buyout to Volution Holdings who later sold its Cable Management business including Elkay to another management buyout called Cable Management Products Ltd. The Cable Management businesses supplied conduit systems, cable glands and other electrical control accessories, under the trading names Adaptaflex, Kopex and Elkay.

In 2008, Elkay was separated from the cable glands and terminal blocks and became an energy saving switches and controls brand. In 2009, Paul Onyett joined the business and after Thomas & Betts, a US based electrical product manufacturer had acquired the Cable Management Products Ltd company in 2010, Paul found himself heading up the business based in Coleshill, Birmingham.

In 2012, ABB acquired Thomas and Betts and Paul continued to manage the business and added other brands Royce Thompson and the Intelligent products in ABB’s Emergency Lighting division sold around the globe.

In August 2019, ABB decided to divest the Elkay business away and after many interested parties for the business came forwards the eventual and successful purchasers were Brook Design Hardware Ltd (BDH Ltd) who successfully acquired the rights to the Elkay brand and, from the 1st of October 2020, began supplying and distributing the entire Elkay range of energy saving switches and controls.

Elkay is known the world over for its quality time switches and sensor products. It has ambitious plans to expand its range, respected reputation and global reach.

Brook Design Hardware Ltd owns Brookvent and makes energy saving ventilation systems. How to get to net zero by 2050?

The UK and other countries are committed to reaching net zero by 2050. This means that the total greenhouse gas emissions would be equal to the emissions removed from the atmosphere, with the aim of limiting global warming and resultant climate change.

Whilst we are globally switching energy generation from fossil fuels to renewables such wind, solar and tidal, we must also make sure we reduce our usage of power. We have simple, reliable and great value products that reduce your energy usage on day one and for as long as they are installed with a payback of just months.

With plastic free packaging and a strong commitment to sustainability Elkay leads the way in energy saving products with a unique 6-year warranty.
